James Rodriguez stated his opinion on his current situation at Everton. After arriving just last year, he may be dropped by new manager Rafa Benitez. However, Rodriguez states that he went to Everton for manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Unfortunately for Rodriguez, Ancelotti made a move to Real Madrid over this offseason. With Benitez in charge, Rodriguez’s future is not clear.

On Twitch, Rodriguez made the comparison to Sergio Aguero concerning his future at the club.

“Kun Aguero left for Barcelona and now Messi is leaving. They are panitas, parceros (partners). Those are the things that football has. The same thing happened to me. I’m going to Everton practically because there was [Carlo] Ancelotti, and look, now [he] is gone.”

Aguero’s situation happened due to restrictive rules of La Liga forcing Lionel Messi out of the club. Before Messi’s departure, it seemed a match made in heaven. The two Argentines were lifelong friends, but they never featured at the club level together.

With Messi gone, the dream partnership can’t happen. Luckily for Rodriguez, he at least spent a season with Ancelotti, and he was brilliant. However, injuries hampered much of his season, limiting him to just 23 league appearances.

Now with Ancelotti gone, Rodriguez wants another opportunity, most likely outside of England. With Everton essentially confirming he can leave due to his high wage demand, his future looks elsewhere. However, just weeks before the Premier League season starts again, Rodriguez remains on the Toffees’ roster.

Rodriguez himself said that even he is still unclear about his own future.

I don’t know what’s going to happen. In football and in life we know nothing. Let’s see what happens. I just know I’m training hard, preparing well. That’s it, it’s the most important thing. You have to think about the present and the present is that I’m here and I’m training hard and physically well for everything that’s coming.

Although no official offers are on the table, Sevilla and Porto reportedly headline several clubs interested in the Colombian. With the transfer window closing on August 31st, Rodriguez doesn’t have much time to contemplate his future.
