After Leo Messi’s move to PSG, the world expected egos to collide. With a front three consisting of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and Messi himself, fans thought the trio couldn’t coexist. However, Messi recently praised Mbappe, not just for his play but also for his personality.

The former Barcelona frontman had kind words for Mbappe, who is regarded as one of the world’s best already at just 22 years old.

“If he finally stays with us, it will be a great joy and one more element to achieve objectives. [Our relationship is] super good from the first weeks, plus Kylian speaks perfect Spanish, and with a player like that, it’s easy to understand. The good relationship off the field makes things easier, and although it is still early to draw conclusions, I am sure it will go well.”

Messi’s words come after early struggles hinted at an underwhelming season ahead for the star-studded PSG squad. Despite rumors of locker room issues and egos clashing, the team sits atop Ligue 1, 6 points ahead of second-placed RC Lens.

Mbappe also acknowledged the initial negative effects of playing with fellow superstars. At the same time, he praised Messi for his on-field ability.

“You have to be smart. There will always be moments of frustration, but the only interest the three of us have is to make PSG win. It’s very easy to play with Messi, really. He really understands football, always knows what to do.”

Following Messi’s signing, PSG’s main goal in mind was the Champions League. With such a talented squad, not achieving such a goal could be seen as a negative.

After all, the world’s eyes rest on the team with the addition of Messi. His debut alone brought in record viewers from around the world.

With Mbappe constantly linked to Real Madrid, the trio may last shorter than many anticipate. However, if the team plays even just one season together, the main goal in mind is the Champions League.

So far, it hasn’t been perfect. A rough 1-1 draw to Club Brugge seemed a horrible start. Fortunately for fans, the team bounced back, beating Manchester City to go atop their group.

There is no telling how far PSG can make it this year, but if Messi and Mbappe stay on the same page, the team may prove to be dominant.
