The Premier League is facing some controversy over their Christmas fixture calendar. For many clubs in England, their main target is to win the Premier League. With fixtures being placed so close to each other, managers will have to rotate players to prevent injuries. Doing this may cost them the win because they have to start players with little experience. This also affects teams pursuing the Premier League title because with teams being so close to each other on the table, every game counts. Jurgen Klopp speaks out about the Christmas fixture calendar and the dangers that come with it.
“26th and 28th? It’s absolutely impossible, it’s a joke that they still do it because it’s no problem to play the 26th and the 29th, wheres the problem?”
Jurgen Klopp
As of right now, the leading title contenders are Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City. These soccer clubs are leading the Premier League table and must win every game available. There is also a race for who can obtain that final top-4 position if the league keeps moving the way it is.
Arsenal, West Ham, Manchester United, and Tottenham are all fighting for that Champions League position. However, all those teams except Manchester United are playing on the 26th and 28th. This gives an advantage to Manchester United as they have more rest time. Other teams will have to rest more players to prevent injuries. By doing this, these teams are risking their chances for the top-4 because all the trust will have to go to the inexperienced players.
“It’s really dangerous for the players, and they say thats what we have a squad for but everyone expects us to win, we cannot just mix it through.”
Jurgen Klopp
The Christmas holiday fixtures will result in disappointment for many teams as nobody knows what to expect. For Jurgen Klopp, winning is a must as he has shown what his squad is capable of. Teams will rotate players because any injuries can lead to a lost season.
