PSG paid out €60 million-plus bonuses to sign Achraf Hakimi from Inter Milan in July. And it now appears they may return to Milan for another blockbuster full-back signing. 23-year-old left-back Theo Hernandez of AC Milan. The Frenchman moved to Milan from Real Madrid in 2019 for a fee of €20 million. In his two seasons with Milan, Hernandez has made 81 appearances, scoring 15 goals and providing 13 assists. He has now caught the eye of the French giants.
Paris is looking to bolster their squad after coming up short in Ligue 1 and the Champions League in 2020/21. The team has already added Achraf Hakimi and signed Gianluigi Donnarumma, Gini Wijnaldum & Sergio Ramos on free transfers. They now have their sights set on Hernandez to provide competition for Juan Bernat & Layvin Kurzawa.
The club is a major player this summer window in contrast to Barcelona and Real Madrid, who will struggle to make any major signings due to financial struggles. Hernandez has become obsessed with the idea of returning to France and playing for PSG. But there will be some hurdles to clear before a deal is struck.
Keys of the deal for Theo Hernandez
Firstly, at Milan, Hernandez will be a guaranteed starter in the Champions League, providing him with the perfect platform to achieve his first call-up to the senior France squad. Secondly, the 23-year-old is one of the best young full-backs in world football, and after PSG paid €60 million for right-back Hakimi already this summer. AC will only consider an offer of the same amount. Finally, Hernandez's contract with Milan runs until 2024, and his entourage would like the player to play at least one more season in Italy. However, the player has his heart set on a move to Paris. If PSG is willing to spend the money, they will get a deal done this summer.
August will be a busy month for PSG by all accounts as they build a squad capable of dominating at home and in Europe.
