Yet another French footballer has been accused of sexual assault. This time, the allegations involve an unnamed player. This comes just weeks after another Frenchman, Ben Mendy, came under fire as police arrested him on multiple counts of rape. All the allegations came as a shock for fans. The now ex-Manchester City player awaits a formal trial in January.
"A French international, we pass the driving in a state of drunkenness or without a license, the classic. We are talking about physical assault on a woman, on two women. But real aggression, with a kick in the head, when she [was] on the ground. And sexual exhibition."Romain Molina
As of late, the player remains unidentified. However, Molina revealed that his former club covered up the case during a transfer. He also added that the club and player in question are "important." This likely implies the player is notable and played at a "big" club, especially in France.
Alcohol also played a big role in the attacks, as Molina claimed the player was drunk at the time of the attacks. He also mentioned that alcoholism heavily affected the player and his relationships with friends and family.
"The guy was [drunk]. He has huge problems with alcohol. His friends know it but continue to make him drink because behind them they eat well. And his family doesn't talk to him anymore, at least some members."Romain Molina
For now, there are no clear suspects as to who it may be.
The French team recently exited World Cup Qualifying with a measly 5 points from 3 games where they were heavy favorites. This is on top of a disappointing EURO 2020 run that saw them bounce out early to Switzerland.
Whether the player will go public is unclear, but this remains extremely unlikely with reports of a club cover-up.
