After a disappointing campaign last season, the Dallas Cowboys decided to make some changes. Mike McCarthy replaced Jason Garrett as their new head coach. The Cowboys feel that they have the pieces to win it all. When asked if it’s Super Bowl or bust McCarthy gave a clear and decisive answer.
“I think a conversation like that, frankly, respectfully, is nonsense,” McCarthy told media. “If you’re not trying to win a Super Bowl, I don’t know what you’re even doing in this business.”
McCarthy’s approach is different to how Garrett responded to questions about the season. When asked about the Cowboys’ goals during the years on the job, Garrett always replied with a reminder of “the process” and/or “taking it one game at a time.”
Throughout his head coaching career, McCarthy always maintained that winning it all is the goal.
“I think [championship goals are] what every team starts their offseason with. The ones that don’t talk about it are probably trying to underpromise, overachieve. I’ve always been very upfront about it with every team I’ve ever coached. We’re in this to win a championship. Make no bones about it.�
Mike McCarthy is intent on earning his second Super Bowl ring as a head coach and the Cowboys� sixth. McCarthy has not won a ring since 2011 and the Cowboys have not won it all since 1996.
The Cowboys have also added many new players, including All-Pro pass rusher�Gerald McCoy, safety�Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, and All-Pro nose tackle�Dontari Poe. Now, Vegas has the team at (+1500) odds to win it all this season, which is fifth-best in the National Football League.
Dallas� quest for a ring starts on September 13th, where they will play the Los Angeles Rams in the first Sunday night football game of the season.
