Draymond Green knows a thing or two about defense. That’s why the three-time Defensive Player of the Year suggests putting Kevin Durant on Anthony Edwards in the first-round matchup between the Phoenix Suns and Minnesota Timberwolves.
On the Draymond Green Show, the Golden State Warriors forward explained why.
“I think Phoenix will win the series. I think they got too much firepower offensively.
Here’s what will have to happen for Phoenix to win the series. At some point throughout this series, Kevin Durant is going to have to guard Anthony Edwards. If Phoenix is going to have a chance at winnings this series, at some point, may not be Game 1, may not Game 2 or 3, but at some point in this series, Kevin Durant is going to have to say, alright, I’m going…
Brad Beal is a good defender. Brad competes, but at some point, Kevin is going to have his length, his defensive tenacity when he wants to turn that up, and he’s gonna have to go guard Anthony Edwards if they’re gonna move forward in this series.“
Draymond Green on what it takes for the Suns to win the series against the Wolves
The Wolves have not won a game against the Suns this season in three tries. Interestingly, these games were not even close as Phoenix won each by double-digits. In fact, the average margin of the Suns’ victories is nearly 16 points. Edwards is confident of their chances, but these losses could mean the Suns are a bad matchup for the three-seeded Wolves.
Durant is one of the best scorers in NBA history, but he’s an underrated defender. As Green mentioned, his length could bother the smaller Edwards, and they may have to generate offense in other ways. That said, Karl-Anthony Towns may return in this series, so that should be encouraging for Minnesota.
