“People who think the Bulls should rebuild don’t understand basketball at all,” explains DeMar DeRozan to Sportskeeda. The Chicago Bulls player responds to fans who think they know it all, and he disagrees.

Fans Don’t Understand Basketball?

While DeRozan doesn’t deny that rebuilding is a possible solution, he thinks it’s too drastic. Additionally, no one can tell the future—even superfans. Thus, the danger of rebuilding for the forward is its timeline; there’s no telling how long or short rebuilding will be.

Furthermore, thinking rebuilding won’t take too long is too optimistic. This process takes a lot of time and money, which doesn’t always work out.

“I think a lot of people who say that or suggest that really don’t understand basketball at all, in my opinion. That route doesn’t necessarily always work in a timely fashion that you may think it will take.”

He adds that finding good talent is already difficult with the climate and market. It’ll be even more difficult looking for young talent that will make the Bulls bounce back from their subpar seasons.

Assuming the team rebuilds and they find the talent they’re looking for, that’s still years of training and chemistry-building until they finally return to playoff-contender form.

While Chicago was in the playoffs in 2022, they were eliminated in the first round. Meanwhile, in 2023 they didn’t even qualify.

If They Won’t Rebuild, What’s The Issue?

The six-time All-Star already knows what the issue is. In his words, “We made a lot of mistakes.”

DeRozan is advocating for more responsibility from the team. Furthermore, he’s not just asking it from the players—he’s looking at the coaches too.

“It’s not only on the players, but the coaching staff as well to be able to correct the mistakes that we have because we weren’t far off at all with the mistakes we’ve had.”

He emphasizes that rebuilding isn’t the solution, and neither is forgetting the games they’ve lost. He wants to change what he can change while accepting that some factors are just out of his hands.

The 34-year-old puts importance on changing mistakes based on the off-games they’ve played and working hard to improve. However, it is undeniable that the Bulls need to change something with how they’ve recently been performing.

Should the team from the Windy City accept their losses and rebuild?
