Limited Run Games made a name for themselves by selling physical copies of games that are usually unavailable. However, an X (formerly Twitter) user points out a massive flaw in their operations.

Limited Run Games Is In Hot Water For Using Cheaper CDs

Limited Run Games (LRG), as their name mentions, is a retailer of physical copies of games that have surpassed their time in the limelight. There’s a market for gamers who want to relive their memories or younger gamers who want to see what the fuss is about for older games. They’re tapping into the market that wants a physical copy to display. After all, other gamers can just get their game on digital platforms like Steam.

Due to the demand and lack of supply for these games, they usually cost a premium—at the very least, more than the games originally retailed for.

However, Todd Gill found out that LRG ships 3DO games on a CD-R instead of a pressed disk. What’s the big deal? Pressed disks cost more to replicate but create a perfect replica of the game provided by the publisher to the retailer (LRG in this case).

Burning the copy onto a CD-R allows for a cheaper process but has a few problems. In this case, it causes issues with the 3DO system, even refusing to work with many machines.

Is It A Big Deal?

Yes, it is. One user confirms how burning a game onto a CD-R might cause problems for the machine. Having to pay a premium only to find out it doesn’t play on your console would be an infuriating experience.

Meanwhile, another user points out that it feels like a scam, as they could’ve burned it onto a CD-R themselves.

There’s a reason why people pay a lot of money for physical copies of retro games. If they can make their copy without the premium feel of an actual pressed disk, why would they even pay $60+?

Do you think LGR is scummy for shipping it out on CD-R instead of pressed disks?
