Patrick Mahomes is open to the challenge of facing Aaron Rodgers twice a year. Rodgers wants out of Green Bay, and two possible trade destinations would be in the AFC West. Las Vegas and Denver are deemed possible landing spots for the 2020 MVP if Green Bay decides to trade him.
Mahomes and Rodgers have never played each other. The Packers and Chiefs faced off in 2019, but Mahomes was out with a knee injury. However, Mahomes welcomes that challenge of dealing with Rodgers two times a season.
“Obviously, it’d be awesome.” “To have that challenge … two times a year, every single year would be a great, great opportunity. I mean, he’s a heck of a football player. He’s been doing it for a long time that I’ve watched play and learned a lot from. But definitely, if he came to the AFC West, it would just make it a little tougher for us, but we’re up to the challenge.”Kansas City Quarterback Patrick Mahomes
The Chiefs have a goal this season of winning every game and winning a Super Bowl. However, Rodgers in the division makes that a lot more difficult.
The Chiefs have dominated the AFC West since Mahomes became the starter. Since 2018, Mahomes has only lost two division games. An Aaron Rodgers-led team would create real competition in that division that it hasn’t really had in recent years.
Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst says he will not trade Rodgers. The team doesn’t believe Rodgers is committed to never playing in Green Bay again.
If Rodgers does decide to stay in Green Bay and play in 2020, he will still get his first matchup with Mahomes. The Packers and Chiefs will face off in November at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. However, twice a year sounds better to any NFL fan.
