If you are in the mood to change how League players identify you in an official match, then here is a full guide on how to change your League of Legends name.

There are many names to choose from. For one, your favorite Esports team or player may inspire you, specifically Faker from T1 or perhaps even Showmaker from DK. Having their legendary names on your side may indeed give you a huge boost in scoring that first Pentakill.

Additionally, it’s important to note that the Summoner’s name in League of Legends will be the same name every League player will use to identify you, whether you’ll be playing in the Summoner’s Rift, ARAM, URF, etc.

Steps on How to Change Your Name in League

Just a few months ago, players could easily change their Summoner name through the in-game LoL store. However, this isn’t possible anymore as Riot Games implemented their new Riot ID system. This means that your Riot ID will also be your in-game name in League of Legends. Additionally, your single account will be saved throughout the other Riot games.

Here are the steps on how to change your Riot ID Name / Summoner’s Name (and how to get a different tag)

  • Open your browser
  • Go to riotgames.com
  • Log in by inputting your Riot Account username and password
  • (Optional) This may prompt Riot to send a verification code to your email address. thus, make sure to input this code
  • On the Account Management section, click the Riot ID tab on the left side of the menu
  • You’ll see “Game Name,” where you can put your Summoner’s Name for League of Legends
  • (Optional) You could also choose to change your tagline
  • Once you’re satisfied with the changes, click “Save Changes” at the bottom

IMPORTANT NOTE: Changing your Riot ID will change your summoner’s name in LoL and other Riot Games, such as Teamfight Tactics, Legends of Runeterra, and Valorant.

The previous Name-changing process

Back then, players could freely change their name within the League client.

  • Login to League of Legends
  • Go to “Store” by clicking the coin icon at the top of the League client (you could also purchase skins and chromas in this section)

  • Back then, there used to be a “Summoner Name Change” button in place of the “Riot ID change”
  • After clicking this button, players could type in their new Summoner name

Previously, League players could change their names whenever they wanted. There was no limit, except that the name change cost 1300 RP or 13,900 Blue Essence in the League of Legends Store. Both are expensive costs for a simple name change within a video game; hence, it was advised for everyone to think long and hard before pressing save.

  • Press “Account Settings,” which is located at the top right
  • This opens an official Riot login page
  • Log in using your Riot Games account
  • (Optional) This may prompt Riot to send a verification code to your email address. Make sure to input this code.
  • Go to “Riot ID”
  • Enter your new ID, as it will be your new Wild Rift name as well
  • Make sure to press “Save Changes” before leaving

How To Get Blue Essence

Blue Essence is an essential in-game currency in League of Legends, especially for new players. It can buy you a new champion, champion mastery, and an additional rune page. Additionally, during the “Blue Essence Emporium,” players can buy selected chromas with Blue Essence. It’s a very special occasion, as chromas can only be bought with RP.

Players can get Blue Essence by simply playing the game. Playing League matches would level you up, which in turn gives you Blue Essence. You could also complete missions found at the lower left of the League client.

Once you’re in League, you’ll notice two numbers in your upper right corner. One number is next to a yellow icon, while the other is next to a blue icon. The former one would be the amount of RP you have.

Simply click the “+” sign next to the RP. This should open all the available methods for you to buy more for your League account.

Back then, there used to be a secret way to change your Summoner name for free. Unfortunately, this was a one-time exception. Players would go to Riot Support and send a ticket with the following title: “SUBJECT: Summoner Name Change”

Doing this will allow them to make small changes to their name, such as having a different spacing or capitalization.

Another fun information you can ask from Riot Support is your Name History for League of Legends. Rest assured, they don’t track your account information beyond the previous three months.

That is the end of our guide on “how to change your League of Legends name.” If you are curious about how to change your Valorant Name, here is how.
