The Irregular at Magic High School finally gets a release date for Season 3! This action romance, science fantasy anime, started its run on April 6, 2014. The first season had 26 episodes, while the second season had 13.
The story began as a light novel that launched in 2008. Tsumoto Sato published the last volume in September 2022.
Release Date
The official studio and staff confirmed back on March 8 that the third season will air on April 5, 2024. Audiences can watch this on various channels in Japan, such as Tokyo MX, BS11, Tochigi TV, Gunma TV, MBS, and TV Aichi. Of course, it will be available on Crunchyroll as well.
To celebrate, the studio has released a new commercial. Fans can hear LiSA’s lovely vocals as she sings the anime’s opening theme song, Shouted Serenade, in the third season’s first-ever premiere.
The previous season had its run back from October 4 to December 27, 2020. Perhaps fans can expect the same timeframe for the upcoming season.
The Anime’s Plot
The anime is based on the original manga, which was written by Tsumoto Sato. He also partnered with the illustrator Kana Ishida.
The story takes place at the National Magic University First Affiliate High School, or Magic High School for short. In this university, students are divided into two groups. The first one is Bloom, where students who display amazing and unfathomable magical abilities and strength belong.
The other group is named with an unfortunate word, Weed. They are the underdogs who possess little to no affinity with magic. Students who are labeled “weed” belong to the “second course” and are often mocked and looked down on.
The narrative focuses on two siblings, Tatsuya Shiba and Miyuki Shiba. Tatsuya is an engineering genius, but his magical abilities are challenging to assess. As a result, the university placed him in the second course alongside the other weeds. Miyuki, on the other hand, is exceptional with magic. People in the first course look up to her and treat her like a queen.
When danger eventually comes their way, the school system and everyone involved eventually realizes the flaw with their system. This was thanks to Tatsuya’s unique abilities, incredible physical strength, and experience in combat.
Plot of the Third Season
Crunchyroll has already posted the third season’s synopsis:
“In a world where magic is not a fairy tale but has existed for one hundred years siblings Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba prepare to begin their studies at the elite Private Magic University Affiliated High School (Magic High School for short). Entering on different levels of the academic spectrum the two turn the once peaceful campus into a chaotic one.”
The anime’s synopsis via Crunchyroll
This season will cover three arcs, namely:
- Double Seven
- Steeplechase
- Ancient City Insurrection
The Double Seven arc will start with the siblings advancing to their second year despite the dangers they’ve faced. Additionally, due to the skills Tatsuya displayed over the previous fights, the school ultimately created a new curriculum known as the Magical Engineering Course.
In this arc, Tatsuya will enjoy his new classes and new position as Vice President of the student council. Everything seems to be going well for the siblings until three new students from the elite families cause havoc in the university.
Will the siblings have what it takes to resolve the chaos slowly brewing within the school halls?
